OC Thanksgiving DUIs Up from Last Year, L.A. Down

|

What beverage are people washing their turkey and stuffing down with? Apparently, the answer is alcohol. My guess is seasonal beers.

Throughout California, law enforcement efforts were upped and on the look-out for drunk drivers. CHP in Orange County nabbed seven more drunk drivers than it did last year during the extended holiday weekend. From Wednesday evening at 6pm to Saturday at 6am California Highway Patrol in Orange County arrested 44 people on suspicion of driving under the influence, compared to the 37 from last year.

Los Angeles, on the other hand, saw a slight drop in DUI arrests from CHP. CHP in L.A. County made 186 DUI related arrests this year. This is a drop of 14 DUI arrest from the Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend last year.

Fortunately, in both L.A. and Orange County there were no DUI related fatalities both this year and last. Unfortunately, however, the same cannot be said for California statewide. This year 17 vehicle occupants were killed over the holiday weekend. This is up three from the 14 fatalities reported during last year’s Thanksgiving Day weekend.

CHP statewide made 840 DUI related arrests, 63 less than last year.

Although overall we seem to have improved in DUI arrests, let’s keep the trend going by letting the food comas and turkey do more damage than by the booze we’re washing it down with.
