California Ranked 19th for States with Worst Drivers, Not Because of DUIs

|

When it comes to driving, Californians (especial Southern Californians) are pretty elitist. However, a new poll by carinsurancecomparison.com suggests that Californians’ perceptions may be unjustified.

The insurance website used several factors to rank states including fatalities per million vehicle miles traveled, failure to obey traffic signals, failure to wear seatbelts, drunk driving, tickets, and careless driving.

The rankings were based on data gathered from several sources including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NTHSA), the National Motorists Association, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

With a number one score going to the state with the best drivers and number 50 score going to the state with the worst drivers, California ranked 45th in careless driving and 43rd in tickets. These factors are what landed California within the top 20 worst states for drivers. Fortunately, California did not rank very high for fatalities and drunk driving which helped us avoid a worse ranking.

So which states ranked best and worst for drivers?

The state with the honor of having the worst drivers in the United States goes to Louisiana. Louisiana ranked number 41 for fatalities, 47 for failure to obey traffic signals, 38 for drunk driving, 46 for tickets, and 48 for careless driving.

The top 10 states with the worst rankings for drunk drivers goes to: Montana, North Dakota, South Carolina, Hawaii, Texas, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Nebraska.

Vermont ranked as the state with the best drivers taking the number one spot for careless driving and number 5 for failure to obey traffic signals. However, Louisiana ranked 28th for drunk driving.

Utah took top spot for the state with the least amount of drunk drivers.
