Forget about the thousands of dollars associated with a DUI. Forget about the possibility of killing yourself or someone else. Forget about the possibility of jail time. According to Budweiser, the way to keep people from drinking and driving is man’s best friend.
Anheuser-Busch InBev created a 60-second commercial spot to tug at our heartstrings and get across one very important message: Don’t drink and drive – Your puppy is counting on you.
The ad spot shows the growing relationship between a man and his dog beginning with the day that the puppy is brought home. The video goes on to show the typical activities we associate with man’s best friend; Frisbee fetch, roadtrips, slobbery licks in the morning, and barbeques.
The video then shows the dog’s owner leaving with friends, beer in tow, as the dog watches. As the dog waits patiently into the night, the screen reads, “For some, the waiting never ended.”
But just when we thought that the dog would be waiting forever, himself, the owner arrives the next morning. As the dog greets his owner with the same jubilant tail wag that we’ve come to expect from man’s best friend, the owner says, “Hey, I’m sorry. I decided I shouldn’t drive home last night. I stayed at Dave’s.”
The screen then reads, “Make it a plan to make it home. Your friends are counting on you. #FriendsAreWaiting.”
