Not long ago, I wrote about Whitney Beall who Periscoped herself driving drunk. For those of you unfamiliar with current social media, Periscope allows users to broadcast themselves to other Periscope users. Needless to say, it didn’t end well for Ms. Beall who was arrested for DUI.
It seems others have followed in the not-so-smart trend of posting themselves driving drunk on social media.
Dustin Rittgers of Obetz, Ohio was arrested for drunk driving after posting a video of himself drinking and texting while driving.
According to ABC affiliate KTRK-TV, friends of Rittgers took to his Facebook page in disapproval. “Dude, Really!!!!!!” posted one friend of Rittgers.
Rittgers responded with “I am a good driver, don’t worry. I’ve got one finger on the steering wheel Facebooking while it’s raining. Smh [shaking my head], i am good. I am a pro.”
“You’ve got a distracted driver and a drunk driver just exponentially causing danger wherever he went,” said Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scotts. “He’s got his hands full when he’s trying to drive. He’s drinking and he’s paying attention to his phone. I mean we are I think very fortunate this didn’t end with some type of tragedy.”
It did, however, end with Rittgers being arrested for DUI after a tipster led police to his car.
Court records indicate that Rittgers pleaded guilty earlier this year in a separate drunk driving case stemming from a 2014 arrest.
