Last week, a California drunk driver crashed his vehicle into a sign that read, “Report Drunk Drivers” and “Call 911.”
A Facebook post by the California Highway Patrol showed a picture of the downed sign with an upside-down vehicle in the background. The post read, “Like the song goes…Isn’t it ironic, don’t ya think? An update on the SR-1 crash at Buena Vista: The driver of the Jeep was arrested for DUI following CHP investigation. He left this behind…Don’t drink and drive, it’s just not worth it.”
On Wednesday of last week, Stephen DeWitt, 57, lost control of his jeep which crashed into the sign, drove up the side bank of the highway, and landed upside down in the middle of the road.
The incident occurred on State Road 1 near Aptos in Santa Cruz County, California.
DeWitt, who was described by an officer as “quite intoxicated,” was seriously injured in the collision and was flown to a nearby trauma center.
DeWitt is facing California DUI charges which carries up to six months in jail an up to $1,000 in fines.
