Driving under the influence is reckless. Not only does it put the DUI driver in danger, but also the people around him. That was the case last week Tuesday April 14th when a woman crashed on Highway 160 in Sacramento, killing all the passengers in the vehicle. Unfortunately, one of the passengers was a seven-year-old child.
Seven-year-old Omari Marquez Gill was among those identified by coroners as victims in this tragic accident. The Sacramento County Coroner’s office identified the other victims as Corey Johnny Wolford, 26, of Antioch, and Alice Tarae Acoff, 27, of Sacramento.
The Rio Vista Fire Department report calls came in about a crash at approximately 7 p.m. According to reports, Acoff allegedly drove a 2001 Saturn intoxicated with both Wolford and Gill before she lost control of her car. Her vehicle then crossed from the northbound lanes of the highway into the southbound lanes, and unintentionally struck a 2017 Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
Reportedly, the Toyota attempted to stop but was unable to avoid the Saturn as it spun into the southbound lanes. Both vehicles hit the highway guardrail on the west road edge and consequently crashed into a tree.
The two people in the pickup truck—whose identities have not been released—sustained minor injuries in the collision. Unfortunately, as was stated earlier, all three occupants in the Saturn were pronounced dead at the scene.
The CHP believes that drugs and alcohol may have contributed to the wreck that took several lives. An independent investigation will be required to uncover any other potential factors in the case, including the results of blood-alcohol content tests to determine the BAC of the driver.
The CHP’s investigation into the crash is ongoing.
