Mina Serrano, 22, sadly lost her life on August 17th, 2019 when her then fiancé Joshua Parker irresponsibly drove while intoxicated with their family in the car. Serrano and her 2-year-old son, Mason, were both passengers in Parker’s SUV when he crashed into a pile of wooden pallets and a trailer truck.
Jarring surveillance videos reveal that Parker narrowly missed hitting a pedestrian before the deadly DUI crash. According to authorities, Joshua Parker was driving eastbound in a white SUV at an accelerated speed when he lost control of his vehicle. He then sideswiped a car and slammed into a parked truck, leaving the SUV crumpled. The impact of the collision was far too severe for Serrano to recover from; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fortunately, first responders were able to rescue her young son Mason. They carefully extracted him from Parker’s vehicle covered in glass but with minimal injuries.
Consequently, Parker was booked into the Fresno County jail shortly after the incident and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing injury or death, child endangerment, and driving with a suspended or revoked license. Despite Parker pleading not guilty to the aforementioned criminal charges, officials sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
The Nightmare of a Deadly DUI Crash
Although young Mason Parker survived the crash, his grandmother Iva Romero said that he suffers mentally from living with the horrific memory of his mother dying before his eyes. She stated, “he has nightmares and he goes around telling people, ‘my mom is dead, my mom is dead’.” She worries that he may never recover from the incident.
At his trial, Parker wept uncontrollably when Iva reminded him that he broke his promise to keep her daughter safe.
Mina Serrano’s family described her as kind and selfless—a young woman filled with love. Now they are left to grasp that a piece of their heart is gone forever.
When you drive while intoxicated, you not only put your own life at risk, but many other innocent lives as well. Be smart, be considerate, and be humane—choose not to drink and drive.
