Suspect of Deadly DUI Case in Garden Grove Found Dead

|

Back on April 15th, 2020, Kyle Michael Morrey was suspected of killing a woman in Garden Grove while driving under the influence of drugs. A few days later, police found Morrey dead in a motel from a suspected intentional narcotics overdose.

Morrey had recently been released from the hospital following his involvement in a fatal collision that left Julie Varley, 59, dead. Authorities believe that Morrey drove under the influence of narcotics when his white 2017 Honda rear-ended Varley, who had been stopped at a red light.

The crash triggered a chain reaction, causing Varley’s vehicle to slam into a third vehicle. Police and paramedics responded to the crash at approximately 1:30 p.m. Unfortunately, the impact of the crash was extensive. Varley was found unconscious and not breathing in her car; she was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Morrey sustained severe injuries and received medical treatment at a local hospital. The driver and passenger of the third vehicle were unharmed.  Following the incident, investigators worked with the Orange County District Attorney’s office to file charges against Morrey.

A few days into the investigation, officers were called to a motel in Westminster, where they found Morrey’s body. They reported locating a suicide note and drugs in the motel room where they found his body.
